Things I have learned from Wikipedia 1

I read Wikipediaand the other wikia sites a lot at work because it is something to do.  So why not share what I have discovered in my reading.

The big thing that I learned today from looking at random files on Wikimedia Commons is that people take pictures of train tracks.  Shocking right?  I mean I don’t even know how many times I’ve clicked on “Random File” today but I have seen a lot of pictures of god damn train tracks.  WTF Mate?  I have to assume that it is just pure chance but really I am not sure, perhaps Wikimedia Commons is saturated with images of train tracks.  The thing that blows my mind even more is that a lot of these images don’t even have trains in them, they are just fucking tracks!  What are people thinking?  “Hey look, there are some train tracks.  Good thing I got my digital camera.  I can’t wait to upload this onto Wikimedia!”  Granted that probably isn’t really what happens but I am still in general bafflement as to why I am landing on so many pictures of train tracks.  Sure trians are interesting but in the long run the tracks are not all that great besides that they provide something for trains to run on.  Maybe the pictures are meant to be scenic.  Still the fact of the day is that people take photographs of train tracks, la-de-fuckin-da.
