Year of the Rat

Happy Chinese New Year!  This year in the Chinese Zodiac is the year of the Rat which last occurred in the Christian Calender in 1996 and before that in 1984 which was the year I was born.  So anybody born this year until February 2009 will have the sign of the Rat.  This comes in handy when you go to a Chinese restaurant and they have those zodiac place-mats that you can look at to find out what kind of person you are.  According to Wikipedia(obviously the most reliable resource around) “Rat is associated with aggression, wealth, charm, and order, yet also associated with death, war, the occult, pestilence, and atrocities.”  I’ve always felt a little bummed out about being under the sign of the Rat (though it is cool that it is the first zodiac sign in the twelve year cycle of the Chinese Calender).  I guess death, and war, and pestilence all go along pretty well with the whole General Lordisimo’s Apocalypse thing too (you know, armageddon and the end times and all that fun jazz).  As A kid I always thought it would be awesome to be under the sign of the Dragon but I guess you don’t get that much say in these things.  It doesn’t matter all that much anyways because I’ve never really bought into the whole zodiac and astrology stuff (I am also a Gemini by the way, not that I really care) because it kind of seems silly.  But hey, if you like it who’s right is it to tell you you’re wrong?  Have fun, read your horoscopes and Chinese restaurant place-mats, maybe there is more to it than I think.
