Peppers
Having a house to live in this year I am planning on planting chili peppers again (I didn’t this past year, but have for several years prior to that). I’ve been browsing the Chili Pepper Institute Catalog today trying to decide what kind of peppers I’d like to try and grow this summer. So far I think these are my top picks.
-
Serrano
-
Orange Habanero
-
Tabasco
-
NuMex Piñata
-
Cayenne
I am also tempted to order some Bhut Jolokia seeds (this is currently claimed to be the worlds hottest pepper, registering more than 1 million scoville units) but I am a bit afraid of those peppers and am not sure what I would do with them if they produced fruit.
I really have to get started on these peppers if I want to get them growing good and producing this summer so if anybody has any suggestions or good advice I would appreciate it.
Also, check out the Chili Pepper Institute, it is a very interesting site.
I’ve got super hots (those little firey red ones we grew last summer) that are meant to be grown in a pot. I didn’t have very good luck with them in the pot, but they did amazingly well in the ground and are really freakin’ hot. Also, Bear and I started a bunch of seeds from a mix packet of all types of hot peppers. I’ve got about 10 seeds started right now for planting as soon as it gets warm. Let me know if you want to get in on this, and I’ll start some for you, too.
Ooooooooooooooo!!!
