Batman; Watchmen

Just got back from watching “The Dark Knight.”  It was awesome.  I am still in the midst of absorbing all that it encompasses and I don’t want to give away anything to anybody who has not seen it, so instead I will provide a six word mini review: “Moral ambiguity; lots of ass kicking.”  I’m sure there are several other six word reviews too (Bear has one regarding President Bush which I have to disagree with.  Something like “George Bush is the Bat Man”).  Anyways, very enjoyable.  As everybody has been saying Heath Ledger does a knockout performance as the Joker.

Speaking of superheroes and moral ambiguity, the first trailer before “The Dark Knight” had me really excited.  It was for an up coming movie (sometime in 2009) titled “Watchmen.”  if you don’t know what “Watchmen” is then you are way behind on your graphic novels/superhero comics (which is okay really considering not everybody is all that into comics).  “Watchmen” is, in my opinion as well as many other people’s, one of the best superhero comics ever made.  It was written by Alan Moore (the guy who also wrote the comics “V for Vendetta”, “From Hell”, and “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) and really is just fantastic.  it has been a few years since I read it so I don’t remember all the details, but I do know that I am excited.  I really hope it is done well.  What I do recall is that it, like the latest Batman film, is a pretty dark and gritty superhero story that brings up a lot of questions about ethics.

Awesomeness all around.

  1. “The Dark Night” was indeed an incredible summer movie. Ledger’s performance was excellent, but don’t let it overshadow the other actors. Christian Bale is, in my opinion, the best Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent is incredible. Add in exceptional performances by veteran actors Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman, as well as excellent directing by Christopher Nolan, this is by far one of the best superhero movies ever made.

    Well done.

  2. P.S. Somehow Richard from “LOST” conned his way into becoming Mayor of Gotham City…Look for Batman to battle “the others” in the already contracted third installment of the newer, way-better Batman movies. (Jack becomes Robin? Hurley is the Penguin? Kate is Cat-Woman?. The possibilities are endless…
