The Beer is Ready!

I am excited to announce that my first home brew seems to be ready for consumption.  I drank two of them yesterday, and Bear had one as well.  The first one I opened had some very serious carbonation and created a lot of head.  The second one, and Bear’s, was not nearly as much so, though part of this may have been due to the cautious pouring.  All and all though I think that this beer has turned out very nice.  As I believe I have mentioned on earlier posts this was an Irish Stout so it is very dark with a somewhat malty sweet flavor.  There is definitely some hops in there but not overpoweringly so.  I would say that I am quite pleased with the results of this first beer brewing endeavor and am looking forward to getting started on my next brew.  Also exciting is that our friend Cory got himself a brew kit for Christmas and he will soon be joining the ranks of the local Greenville home brewers.

What a fun hobby, and at the end you get to hopefully drink delicious beer.  I think I am going to consider making a pale ale next, something with a real hops kick.

  1. Congrats on the first homebrew! It’s an exciting time. I’ve had inconsistent carbonation from batch to batch but never within the same batch. Perhaps your priming sugar didn’t get mixed well enough. Either way, you are on your way in a very rewarding hobby. Now get brewing before the first batch is gone! 🙂
