RIP Andrew Wyeth
Andrew Wyeth, the famous American painter, and son of N.C. Wyeth passed away last night at his home in Chadds Ford, PA. He was 91 years old.
I have many fond memories of Andrew Wyeth. When I was growing up, I often visited the Brandywine River Museum, which is located in Chadds Ford and only a short ways away from my grandparent’s house in Delaware. While as a youth I didn’t quite appreciate the work of Andrew Wyeth, as well as that of his father N. C. Wyeth, and son Jamie Wyeth (all of whom have many works displayed in the Brandywine River Museum) I recall the last time I visited the museum (which must have been about eight years ago or so) being really struck by Andrew Wyeth’s work. When I moved to Greenville in 2007 I visited the Greenville County Museum of Art (which is right next to the library I work in) the second week that I was in town. They have a large display of Andrew Wyeth’s works, which was comforting to see, in a nostalgic sense. I have since moving here visited the museum a number of times (its free!) and enjoyed Wyeth’s works.
I personally feel that Andrew Wyeth has to be one of my favorite painters, right up their with Georgia O’Keefe, Edward Hopper, and John Singer Sargent. they are lovely works of art and if you have never seen any then I recommend checking them out. Andrew Wyeth will be greatly missed.
