Branch Visits
Over the next couple of weeks my boss and I are going to be visiting a number of the branch libraries of GCLS. Yesterday I got to go to two, Berea and Travelers Rest, both of which I had never been to before.
I had a blast.
Part of my enjoyment, of course, was in getting to be out of the office almost all day long. But i also really like being able to talk to different staff members and discuss what my department can be doing to provide them the most relevant training and development opportunities. Everyone I met with yesterday expressed some great ideas, asked some pertinent questions, and all around seemed very receptive to suggestions of some future trainings. It was a great experience.
I’ve enjoyed my position in the library systems Staff Development Department since taking the job back in July 2008, but I think yesterday’s two visits, were probably the most enjoyable things I have done yet. If I can get a chance to visit branches more often I think it will be awesome. I just feel that having the opportunity to meet with all staff is really helping me do the job I am suppose to be doing. I hope the branches enjoy having us visit and don’t think of us as bureaucratic spies for the administration (admin doesn’t need spies, I thin that they might have a magic crystal ball that lets them know everything that is going on in the branches).
Good times all around, can’t wait to go visit more branches next week.
