The Fall Mushrooms of New York City

Ava Chin writes a brief article over at The New York Time’s City Room blog about an abundance of edible mushrooms that can be found in the Big Apple during the autumn months.  It is a fun little piece and it does a good job of pointing out that fun fungi can pop up just about everywhere, even in densely populated urban areas.

A few of us went out this past Sunday to look about for any fall fungi in out local area but met nearly no success (we found a few dried old mushrooms and some random little ones and a log covered in jelly fungus).  I guess it has just been too damn dry here in the upstate of South Carolina.  A pity really as some really good mushrooms seem to come out during the cooling weather of autumn.  Here’s hoping for some good rain soon.
