Signs of the Apocalypse: Laser Weapons

So, um, we have real honest-to-goodness laser guns now . . . well kind of anyway.  Here watch this nifty (and eerily silent) video.

Now, obviously these are not your standard sci-fi staple handheld laser-blasters, but still it is kind of a) impressive technology and b) terrifying weaponry.  While these lasers are obviously still in general testing phase I have no doubt that they will soon be common place, especially considering that they are regarded as being far more cost effective than using a rocket to take out similar targets.

So, does this mean we officially can claim to live in the future yet?  Or do we still have to wait on flying cars and affordable robot-butlers for that one?
